About Us

The Animal Inn and Wellness Center provides pet lodging and therapeutic services. Dr. Michelle Loftus and Kevin Loftus purchased the Animal Inn in 2005. Michelle, a veterinarian with 20 years of experience, oversees the general health of lodging pets, as well as their requested special service needs. Michelle approaches veterinary medicine from a Western and Eastern perspective; therefore the Animal Inn can provide a variety of pet care services. Appointments for special services may also be made for pets that are not lodging with us. Exams, vaccinations, massage and acupuncture are some of the services available. Why not schedule a special service while your pet is staying with us? We also offer an extensive selection of nutritional supplements, holistic foods, toys and pet supplies.

The Animal Inn and Wellness Center sits on a 30-acre farm. Horses, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and a llama call the farm home. The surroundings provide environmental enrichment for dogs that lodge with us. Cats enjoy bird feeders outside their room windows. Birds, hamsters, lizards and other exotics enjoy each other’s company in a separate climate controlled room.

Management

Nancy Abel manages the day-to-day operations of the lodge. It is she who ensures that our guests’ care, safety, and well-being remain our primary focus. Nancy has spent the last 10 years at the Animal Inn, and is dedicated to the well-being of our guests. Nancy has experience in business management, inn management, and animal care. She has lived on San Juan Island for over 20 years, and shares her home with a variety of pets.
